Before you trust that mileage

The free decode won't catch odometer fraud / clocked mileage

SEAT: The free decode is step 1: it reads the VIN structure (make, model, engine, origin). That's it. It can't tell you whether the car in front of you has had its mileage wound back, been crashed, or is still on finance. The full history report is step 2 — and that's where the real risk shows up.

The free decode shows

VIN structure: specs, engine family, country and plant of origin, body type.

It does NOT show

  • Real mileage history (rollback)
  • Accident & damage records
  • Theft & finance status
  • Open safety recalls
  • True number of owners
  • Market value

About SEAT identification numbers

SEAT is a Spanish automaker and part of the Volkswagen Group, known for sporty, youthful vehicles with Mediterranean flair. Models like the Leon, Ibiza, and Arona deliver VW Group engineering with a distinctively dynamic character. SEAT's CUPRA sub-brand has become a standalone performance marque. Founded in 1950, headquartered in Martorell, Spain, SEAT has built a global reputation for quality and innovation. SEAT is part of the Volkswagen Group group.

How SEAT encodes its VINs

Every SEAT vehicle carries a unique 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) that acts as the vehicle's fingerprint.

SEAT uses VSS for both SEAT and CUPRA models. As part of the VW Group, SEAT follows the group's VIN encoding scheme with position 4 for the model series, position 5 for the body type, and position 6 for the engine. CUPRA models are distinguished by specific model codes within the VSS prefix. The VIN is split into three main sections: the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI, positions 1–3), the Vehicle Descriptor Section (VDS, positions 4–9) and the Vehicle Identifier Section (VIS, positions 10–17).
