Before you trust that mileage

The free decode won't catch odometer fraud / clocked mileage

Fiat: The free decode is step 1: it reads the VIN structure (make, model, engine, origin). That's it. It can't tell you whether the car in front of you has had its mileage wound back, been crashed, or is still on finance. The full history report is step 2 — and that's where the real risk shows up.

The free decode shows

VIN structure: specs, engine family, country and plant of origin, body type.

It does NOT show

  • Real mileage history (rollback)
  • Accident & damage records
  • Theft & finance status
  • Open safety recalls
  • True number of owners
  • Market value

Founded in 1899, headquartered in Turin, Italy, Fiat has built a global reputation for quality and innovation. Fiat is part of the Stellantis group.

How Fiat encodes its VINs

Every Fiat vehicle carries a unique 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) that acts as the vehicle's fingerprint.

Fiat uses ZFA for passenger cars, ZFB/ZFC for certain model variants, and ZFD for Fiat Professional commercial vehicles. Position 4 identifies the model platform (500, Panda, Tipo), position 5 the body type, and position 6 the engine configuration. The VIN is split into three main sections: the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI, positions 1–3), the Vehicle Descriptor Section (VDS, positions 4–9) and the Vehicle Identifier Section (VIS, positions 10–17).
